Trip to Illinois

It's official....Dane and his car seat are no longer on speaking terms. After two 9-hour trips in the car, he doesn't ever want to see that seat again!! We spent the 4th of July in Decatur, IL visiting Papa & Nana. He did really well on the car ride out. We left around his bed time, and he slept the majority of the time. But we left the morning of the 5th and, after several pit stops with a cranky baby, realized we should have waited until his bed time for the return trip. Live and learn, right? :-) Overall, he did really well. I mean, who DOES like sitting in the car for 9 hours??

We had a lot of fun with Dane on the trip. He had a few "firsts"...first ride in a boat, first trip to the zoo and first ride on a train. He really liked the boat, which worried my dad a little bit. He doesn't want his grandson joining the Navy! Don't worry dad, we'll get him in a plane soon!

Here is Dane with his Papa. They're buds.

Dane with his Nana enjoying some time on the back porch. Love that double chin!

Cousins Robbie & Serenity with Dane at the zoo. Random fact: Decatur is the smallest city with a National Zoo (we learned that on the zoo's train ride :-).

Dane was such a trooper in his life jacket. We thought he would HATE it. He didn't LOVE it, but it didn't ruin his time on the boat. As you can see, the back of the life jacket makes a great pillow for sleeping!
Here is Matt tearing it up on the wave runner. Fun, fun.

Look at his little tuft blowing in the wind. Ha!!

Papa loved taking Dane on nature walks. I think we have an outdoor enthusiast on our hands...being outside seems to calm him down whenever he's cranky.

Happy belated Independence Day everyone!

Hi Shelly,
Popped in from Stacy's blog- I have a 6 month old and she loves loves the outdoors like crazy. Calms her down everysingletime. And as soon as you can, you should get an outdoor swing- I bet Dane will love that, too!
Nice to see you in the blogosphere :)

Shel, you need to put one of the Steak n Shake photos up here. What's a trip to IL without a trip to Steak n Shake and a hat, at least for Matt (& now Dane)?!?!?
